London Gateway Logistics Park Expansion

Thurrock Council has approved a ten-year Local Development Order (LDO) for the expansion of DP World’s London Gateway Logistics Park. This development aims to enhance the park’s capacity and efficiency, reinforcing its role as a key logistics hub in the region.

GXO Logistics’ European Growth

In May 2022, GXO Logistics expanded its European presence by acquiring Clipper Logistics, adding over 50 sites and approximately 10,000 employees. The company also opened 30 shared warehouse facilities in the UK and signed a partnership with Sainsbury to manage fresh and frozen shipments. In June 2023, GXO announced a multiyear expansion program in Germany, further solidifying its European footprint.

Deutsche Bahn’s Financial Challenges Post-Divestment

Following the sale of its profitable logistics unit, Schenker, Deutsche Bahn reported a net loss of nearly €1.8 billion in 2024. The company faces challenges with outdated infrastructure and aims to make the German rail network profitable by 2027.

Inditex, the owner of Zara, experienced a 10% rise in transport emissions in 2024 due to increased air freight usage, influenced by maritime logistics disruptions. Despite this, the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions remained stable, attributed to reduced emissions from purchased goods and services.
